Vegas, Baby, Vegas

So wow. Vegas in less than a month. Boo ya.

It's funny, reading assorted pre-Vegas posts by assorted bloggers. Especially in my case, as I'm still a completely unknown variable, never having met anyone in that thing known as real life before. (Well, not counting tobytoby, who I've personally seen impersonating both CatWoman and the color silver).

Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited about going to Vegas. Very, very excited. Mucho excited.

But, umm, here's the thing. I'm pretty shy, quiet, and boring. Really. I swear. I don't tend to talk much, especially in large groups. People often assume that I'm having a horrible time, or that I'm angry and inexplicably want to find and butcher Fluffkins, their beloved pet Pomeranian. When, in fact, more often than not I'm having a perfectly good time and enjoying myself a good bit.

I'm also horribly out of drinking shape. Getting married, working a full time job, plus the equivalent of a couple more full-time jobs pursuing assorted business ventures will do that to you. Or to me, at least. If I stick to beer or *gasp* ask for water, no offense is intended.

I also don't know how to play craps or Pai Gow. Shameful, shameful. I'm sure my live game has all sorts of holes in it, due to the fact that I haven't played a live hand of poker in nearly four years. And that's being generous and counting guts, acey-duecey, and Indian poker as "poker", which is a pretty large stretch of the imagination.

Long story short, be gentle. And believe me, I'll be having a good time. Really. Fluffikens is prefectly safe. I swear.

The only difference between you and I is that I'm still very much single, and in prime drinking shape. I don't, however, handle large amounts of hard alcohol well. Too much and I'm a vegetable. I can drink enough beer to drunkify a small village, but I'm a fast drinker and booze, for me, is a baaaaaaad idea.

No worries. I think you'll be surprised at how personable the group is. Sit back and enjoy the show :)

Also, Bob is THE man to see when it comes to learning craps. He taught me during the last trip.

Amen to the above... We're not all lunatics - just Al.

I've only met Glyphic, and he won't be in Vegas - so I'm a n00b too! I know a little about craps though... my boyfriend is a craps dealer. ;)

I can't make it to Vegas but am the same personality type. I don't think you'll have a problem. Watch out for that "Al" guy....he seems to be a bad influence :) :)

Looked up yesterday at JetSet PLO8 tournament and saw a scurveydog in the top 24...Can't be more than one can it?

Yeah, more introverts! I haven't met anyone in person either. As for drinking, I'm probably in the same boat as you. My liver hasn't been abused properly since college.

As long as you buy cockails for everyone, you'll be fine.

You'll be fine so long as you remember that the Canthang Crew drinks 4 times faster and 5 times longer than you. No need to try to keep up. I know that from experience.

The best thing about being out there is the fact that you'll be able to learn all sorts of games from all sorts of degenerates. Some of which may actually know what they're doing. Hell, maybe you'll end up in the arcade betting on which 12 year old girl dressed like Brittany Spears will win Dance Dance Revolution with Grubby or Hank.

Al could make a Sunday school full of nuns into a bubble rave party within minutes.

As for playing Craps and Pai Gow, I'll be happy to help you on there, very fun games! :)

I'm not a party girl, though I play one on the internet. I'm pretty shy myself and will definitely be sticking to beer as well. I have a feeling a lot of us newbies are feeling the same way.

If you're worried about the 'live game' thing and you're looking to have just a night out, you might try playing in one of these free tournaments.

No money is involved so it's pretty stupid, but for someone like me who has *never* played in a card room it has helped me feel a bit more confident about my game in a live setting.
