Horrible Poker Confessions

Things like this are best just blurted out, with a minimum of preamble.

For the first time I can remember, over a weekend in which I was home and had no other huge, looming obligations, I went the entire weekend without playing a single solitary hand of poker. Not one.

But that's not even the worst of it. The worst of it is that it didn't even enter my mind, the entire time, that I could be playing poker, instead of whatever I was doing. And, truly, that's the first time that's happened in a very long time. I've definitely gone weekends with no poker, but it was always due to other obligations, traveling, no Intraweb at home, etc. And it was always nibbling at my mind, either wanting to playing or feeling the obligation to get hands in.

This weekend, though, not so much. Not at all, really. And I think that's a good thing, in the grander scheme of things. I've been burnt out to varying degrees the last few months as far as poker goes, but have kept grinding. Because, you know, that's what you do. It's kind of nice to arrive at a place where, even if for just a weekend, I can completely rid myself of the poker monkey on my back.

All that babbling aside, I'm going to be hitting the tables hard the next two nights, as ScurvyWife is taking art classes on both Tuesday/Wednesday nights, leaving me free to get my degenerate gamble on.

I think I've managed to satisfy my temporary obsession with Civ IV, largely via playing far, far too much of it of late. I'm man enough to admit assorted failings, one of which is that I cannot, no matter what, beat the computer on the Deity level. There you go. Kudos, CheatyMcCheatsalot AI, you kick my ass every which way on Deity. No matter how many times I save at certain points, micromanage, and restart over and over, hoping for the perfect storm of conditions necessary to win, I can't do it.

I've also been pretty busy working on a silly sports side project over at oddsnark.com, which is mainly an outlet for a myself and sports-obsessed friends to try to be funny and amuse the sports world each other. It's kind of cool, though, to do a project like that just for the hell of it, for the sheer sake of enjoyment, instead of the other sorts of more mercenary schemings I do, geared solely towards making money.

In sports news, the Longhorns continue to roll. Yeah, I know, getting ahead of ourselves, but man, USC-Texas has the makings of one hell of a national championship game.

How the Eagles lost that game last night, I do not know. I keep going to bed late in the MNF games this year, certain of the outcome, only to wake up and see that the team dominating somehow gifted their opponent the game.

My fantasy football team continues to roll at 9-1, surviving a pretty poor performance last week due to favorable scheduling. Still pretty weak at WR but as long as Delhomme-LT-Stephen Jackson-Harrison continue to roll, the Junk Kickers should continue to administer swift kicks to the junk.

I don't even want to talk about the Eagles - I dislike them ALREADY but after The Rush from last night I was pretty happy to see my pick was a lock with 5 minutes to play and watched in horror as 2 minutes of football turned into a nightmare.

You didn't even THINK of poker?? Were you wearing an Aluminum cap the entire weekend?
